（中央社厄瓜多首都基多16日綜合外電報導）根據美國地質調查所（USGS），厄瓜多7.8強震已經導致人口第一大的瓜亞基爾（Guayaquil）至少1人死亡。
美國有線電視新聞網（CNN）報導，警方告訴當地電視台，緊急救難人員在1處倒塌橋梁現場找到1具遺體。現場持續搜救中。
人口200萬的瓜亞基爾，許多購物人潮也被強震嚇到。店內監視錄影器拍得的畫面顯示，吊掛的廚房用具鍋碗瓢盆等劇烈搖晃，部分商品掉落地面。
接著商內燈光熄滅，警報聲四起。
